Nationwide Children's Hospital Foundation Security Update

August 3, 2020

We are reaching out to let you know that on July 16, 2020, Nationwide Children’s Foundation was notified by one of our third-party vendors, Blackbaud, that between the months of February and May, 2020 they had been the target of a data security incident.

Blackbaud is a long-time vendor partner and one of the world’s largest providers of education administration, fundraising, and financial management software for non-profits in healthcare and the education industry.  Nationwide Children’s was one of hundreds of non-profit organizations served by Blackbaud that were impacted by this cyber-attack. The hackers were able to access a subset of Blackbaud’s data, which included some of Nationwide Children’s Foundation’s donor information. Based on our investigation thus far, the data which could have been accessed included donor names, addresses, phone numbers, emails and giving and donor history.

We have been informed by Blackbaud that their Cyber Security team engaged with independent forensics experts and law enforcement to address the data breach with confirmation that the data they obtained from the system had been destroyed. For additional information about this incident, please visit Blackbaud’s website at https://www.blackbaud.com/securityincident.

We take information security very seriously, and we regret any concern this may cause for you or any member of our donor community. Upon learning of this incident, Nationwide Children’s immediately began an investigation to understand what data had been compromised, and we will continue to take all appropriate action with respect to this incident.

There is no need for you to take any action at this time. However, as with most cyberattacks there may be a slight risk to the data involved. As a best practice, remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity or suspected identity theft to the proper authorities. If you have any immediate questions or concerns, please call 1-866-317-5437 or email MemberServices@NationwideChildrens.org.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership, support, and understanding.
