Each of Nationwide Children’s transplant programs is built by a team of nationally-recognized experts who work together to provide individualized care. Transplant teams include experienced surgeons and physicians, as well as transplant coordinators, social workers, dietitians and psychologists who address all the transplant needs of children and families, from evaluation through long-term, post-surgical care.
John D. Mahan, MD, is a professor of pediatrics in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Nationwide Children’s and The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
Mark Galantowicz, MD, is the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Co-Director of The Heart Center at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Dr. Galantowicz is also a Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and is the recipient of the Murray D. Lincoln Endowed Chair in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Kenneth Washburn, MD, is the Chief of Transplantation.
Stephen Kirkby, MD, is the Clinical Director of the Lung and Heart-Lung Transplant Programs at Nationwide Children's Hospital.

The Liver Center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital has long offered some of the nation’s best care to children with a wide range of liver conditions. We are proud to now offer full-spectrum care for children requiring liver transplants.
We treat patients with heart failure including medical management and mechanical assist devices as a bridge to transplant. We work with patients and families to plan treatment that provides the best possible quality of life.
Our program utilizes a multidisciplinary team of lung transplant and heart-lung transplant experts in the transplantation of children and adults with childhood lung diseases.

When Brielle was 11 months old, she was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumor in both kidneys. The kidneys were removed four months later, and she began dialysis four times a week with the hope of eventually getting a transplant.
